Solo Dating Challenge, Episode 4: Dave & Buster’s

To be honest, I really didn’t want to go to Dave & Buster’s.

That day was hectic: back-to-back engagements with barely any breathing room. And if you know me, you know I have a habit of squeezing as much as possible into one day. This was definitely one of those days.

But, it was the end of the month, and I HAD to get this solo date done. The challenge is two dates per month, so I couldn’t even push it back.

So, I made the reservation on OpenTable and got ready for it.

You know when you’re already having a bad day, and then everything that can go wrong… does?

Yeah.

I was already running late, then I had to fix my hair. My wig wasn’t dry enough to put on and I didn’t have time to properly fix it. So, I had to get this little synthetic wig I had broken up with. Which made me furtherly annoyed (I know it’s not a word, but it is today lol).

Then my outfit wasn’t really doing it for me, so I just opted for a black top with jeans, put a jacket over it, and then I rushed out.

At that point, I wasn’t excited. I was just… committed to the mission chile.

This was my first time in years going to Dave & Buster’s and in the end it, was worth it.

I had so much fun.

Like, little kid fun. And I was completely okay with that.

Sometimes, I get the sense that I missed some key parts of childhood. And every now and then I see that little girl in me show up again. She still needs lots of love, tender care and attention.

So yeah, I dragged myself there and she was definitely waiting for me on the other side.

Now, one thing about me?

I’m going to eat very well Every. Single. Time.

So, of course, I started off with some food. I had the GPT fries and chicken nachos. 10/10 would definitely recommend.

Those fries actually exceeded my expectations. Considering the venue, I didn’t really expect a culinary masterpiece, but they were definitely that: perfect size, crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Then the (G)arlic, (P)armesan, and (T)ruffle paired together so well. I would go back there just for these fries.

The nachos were a mountain of chips, beans, chicken, cheese, lettuce, jalapeños, and pico de Gallo. Also good on their own.

Once I finished my food, I headed to the back to play the games.

And because of my mood that day? I went straight for the aggressive ones.

Alien invaders. Shooting games. Anything that let me release a little frustration.

Then I tried a football game that loudly reminded me that I need to get back in the gym. But we won’t dwell on it too much.

At one point, I got on this little motorcycle and had so much fun. I felt like a badass woman in an action movie.

This solo date surprised me. I know I keep saying this, but it’s true.

I didn’t want to go and would have gladly stayed in bed that day. But I’m glad I showed up for myself, because I had a great time.

And that’s the message I want to leave you with: on the days when showing up feels like a chore and everything in you says forget about it, get up and do it anyway.

You’re worth the effort.

And remember, if you’re not willing to show up for yourself, why should anyone else want to do it?

Along this journey, I found that every time I’ve shown up, even when I didn’t want to, I genuinely enjoyed myself.

Life is for the living.

And even if you had a rough start, as long as you’re living, you can rewrite your story to make it something worth remembering.
